If you cross the road to the rear of the property, you will find yourself in "Het Waliën", a wooded area ideal for idyllic walks and belonging to the Dutch Association for the Preservation of Nature Reserves. It is also possible to walk along the water´s edge, but this means taking the other direction when leaving the property: follow the brick-paved lane where the house is situated until you reach the weirs in the Berkel river. The village of Almen is accessible by foot or by bike once on the far bank of the Berkel. There you will find an open-air swimming pool, where you can also rent canoes and water bikes in the summer, a mustard maker´s and "De Hoofdige Boer" restaurant. A number of cycle paths and walks run past the house, but you may also take delightful unplanned wanders through this pleasant landscape.
